Snowballs and Easter Eggs

I’ve mentioned many of the recipes that Grandmother and Mom would prepare but I have totally forgotten until now that Dad had two recipes that we would love every year. At Easter he would make Easter eggs, vanilla or coconut covered with rich dark chocolate. Mary Sue move over.

But the best were the snowballs. Whenever there would be a deep, clean snow it would be gathered and a combination of milk, sugar and vanilla would be added to it. And voilà, we would have home made snowballs. I can still taste them now.

Speaking of memorable food, I was thinking yesterday of another of our great trips--New York City. Remember going to Picholine's for lunch? I had panna cotta for dessert (didn't you, too?), and I think it was the first time I had tasted it. The restaurant is still there and well-known and respected.Barry, you and Rick did the research and recommended the plays we saw--I still carry to the gym the dance bag I bought at Fosse. Remember the cabaret show, Secrets Every Traveler Should Know? It was presented about two years ago at Theater Jax. I was proud to announce I had seen it first in NY! Yep, we had a good time, even if you both disparaged a pair of shoes I bought:" Well, maybe they will look better on than in the box." They did.

Hey Barry,
Snowballs are one of my favorite childhood goodies too! We could not eat enough of it and Mom loved that it was cheap too :-)
I do remember my Dad telling all of us kids 'Dont scoop the yellow snow!' of course we would just giggle and move onto another batch in the yard.

p.s. I too love prunes and I cannot stop laughing about you and Maddie eating the whole bag...too funny :-)

As always I send tons of prayes and XOXOXO, Cindy Hawes

Hi Barry,
I had not thought about these treats for years! We poured soda when we had it over the snow to make snowballs at our house. My Mom made Easter eggs too.....her recipe used potatos in some proportion to which coconut, vanilla, and other flavors were added. She also made a cherry nut Easter egg. I can remember waiting for the chocolate to cool and harden on the eggs placed on waxed paper on our dining room table. If I can get her recipe and successfully make some, I'll send them to you! Have a great weekend.
