Un-snafu

Heartland was able to get my transportation issues resolved and so I was able to receive my radiation treatment to the spine at the appropriate time today. Just seven of those treatments left.

The PT for the paralysis is being very demanding and I had two sessions today. In the second session, I was able to push myself out of the wheelchair and hold onto the parallel bars in what they call the standing position but to me it felt as though I was not quite standing. Still not walking at this point but as they keep telling me at PT, baby steps, baby steps.

I was out of bed and in a wheelchair from approximately 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. so by the time they got me back into bed I was truly exhausted.

Margo and Simon are coming for a visit in the morning. They've been freshly groomed. I just pray that they're freshly behaved.

Rick has brought in the cookies that Jim sent me - the whole box - and I'm sharing them with my guests as they visit.

Hello Barry, the facility you selected sounds ideal. I hope you're doing as well as your updates sound.

Based on my experiences, I bet you are a royal pain to have as a patient :)

Thanks for sharing your journey with your many friends and colleagues, both past and present. We're all praying for your speedy recovery.

I hope I'm doing this correctly. I put live, but don't know if that was the correct selection.

It's overcast and raining in Bethany today. I told Tina last night that I had wanted to "trike" to the library and read the famous or infamous V.F. article and then "trike" to Fishers popcorn and send you an emergency supply of instant get up and go comfort junk food of the best kind. Any way, after I had done my six-mile trike with my girlfriend and then some gardening, I didn't have the get up and go to get up and go. This morning, I'm allow to break my rule to trike because it's nasty outside.

Ken said he agreed that we, at least today, are strong enough to travel to Jacksonville when we detrain September 8th. He has a cousin in Coco Beach that we will also visit. We haven't visited her since we started to use the auto train. It's about time, we visited both of you!

Love,

Aunt Naomi

Barry,

Glad to hear that the transportation issues has been corrected. It was good to talk with you on Sunday. It sounds like you are starting to see progress (baby steps) with the PT. As I read the blog daily I can see the positive attitude which you have and I heard the same in your voice on Sunday. Keep being upbeat and I know that you will be up and about very shortly. Debbie said to say hello. Keeping you in our thoughts.

Always,

Your brother Steve

Hi Barry! I got my hug from Scott! He has strict instructions to hug you back when he gets home. I got your call, and am very glad to hear your voice. It sounds from your blog that you are receiving exceptional treatment...I'm sure the nurses fight to have you as their patient!
Take care, and know that I'm thinking about you often.
Love, Carol

Barry, I just received your link from Ms. Waller this morning. She was updating me yesterday on your progress. I just want you to know that your friends in Nashville are thinking about you and we're saying very special prayers for your speedy recovery. Thank you for keeping us updated on your progress. Please let me know if there is anything we can do for you from here. I'll be in your area in late June/early July so I will keep up with your progress and location and will hopefully be able to stop in for a visit. I don't have special cookies but maybe I can come up with something to remind you of all the special times you spent with us in Nashville. Maybe some "trashcan lid earrings" from Juanitta's collection or some Melodie Mayberry-Stewart keepsakes can be found.... Keep a smile and know that you are loved.

Glad that the rad treatments resumed. I am sure that between the travel for the treatments and the PT you are exhausted!!! Rest is very important too. Keep your spirits up and the blues down... Can't wait to here about the dogs visit.
The coffe and chocolate are kicking in got to go...
